Seven things you may not have known

Dear MSB,

These are some of the things I am made of. Thanks for the award.

1. I was given my first pair of heels at nine years of age. It was when my father used to play Janis Joplin every night.

2. My father used to race speedboats and I still love to sit through a boat race, any kind of boat race, and I love the smell of engine parts.

3. My brother and I used to race catamarans and on a broad reach we would nosedive one hull and catapult ourselves into the water.

4. We had a car accident when I was fourteen and my cousin died and I decided that I wouldn’t wait for anything, ever, in my life.

5. In 1988 I used to walk up the main street of Mogadishu to my Somali language lessons, then walk home from the French Cultural Centre after a film around 11pm. No guns, no fear, no war zone.

6. I first drank coffee – bunna – in Ethiopia and fell in love. I’d never had a cappuccino in my life.

7. I can’t live without my piano. And my cherry trees.

I'd like to pass the award onto these five bloggers whose words I cherish (many of my favs have already received the green box!)

  1. Thank you so much for the mention, that is so kind of you. I'm up to my eyeballs at the moment but this is not the first time I have had this award. I will make sure I pass it on during February.

  3. My nine year old would wear heels, too, if I let her! I'm sorry to hear about you losing your cousin when you were so young. I can't imagine how deeply that affected you. I'm off to read your other blog now...

  4. Thanks MSB. Rather startling what those seven things can bring out, eh?

Maybe I have been wearing heels for far far too long. I don't possess any flat shoes except ski boots and flip flops. My poor back!

  5. Oh, Catherine! I'm so honoured by your words but also filled with roiling emotions after your own seven things. The first three, about heels and boats, made me giggle, and then the next few struck my heart. *hugs*

And oh, how I miss my [parents'] piano!

You've also reminded me that I've been tagged several times for awards/memes like this in the past year, and haven't done them!! Eeek! I'll try to remember to get to this after I've got through my current backlog of posts :)

    xoxo

  6. Dear Hannah,

Don't worry, take your time. This was my first 'award' so I was rather enthusiastic. Although the heel comments made me realise it's been a long time since I bought a pair... Hmmm. It's sales time too.

I never really feel at home anywhere unless I have a piano. Nuts!

    Xxxx

  13. Cheers, Cat - not sure my "truths" can make the grade - played keyboard feverishly with no knowledge of music - doesn't quite cut it! But I shall do my best :)
